The Value of an AVITH Community of Practice

The ongoing work of family violence reforms has highlighted gaps in knowledge about AVITH and the need for specialist expert advice to enable service providers to more effectively respond to and support these young people.

Having a Victorian AVITH Community of Practice allows us to build the knowledge base of evidence-informed and promising practice in this space. The Community of Practice will assist in:

  • Improving outcomes
  • Developing organisational capabilities
  • Improving experiences of work
  • Fostering professional development

If you work in an AVITH-specific program or service,
please contact us to find out about joining this group.

Purpose

The objectives of this group are to:

  • CREATE CONNECTION – Connect new and existing AVITH providers.
  • DEVELOP PRACTICE – Create a forum that encourages shared learning and consistent practice.
  • SHARE EXPERIENCES – Provide opportunities to discuss emerging themes, patterns, limitations and practice implications in AVITH service provision.
  • DISCUSS DEVELOPMENTS – Share updates – and wherever needed, to advocate for – changes to program directions, as they relate to direct service provision.

Participation

  • The AVITH Community of Practice is open to all AVITH providers across Victoria. This includes Community Services Organisations (CSOs) and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) that work directly with adolescents who use (or are at risk of using) violence towards family members.
  • Guest speakers and AVITH service providers may be invited to present promising practice approaches with the potential to contribute to the growing AVITH evidence base for the benefit to other providers.
  • On occasion, Family Safety Victoria (FSV) may be invited to provide key stakeholder updates.
  • Some participants may also be a member of the established AVITH Collaborative Network.

Scope

  • Meetings occur on a monthly/bi-monthly basis
  • 60 mins, depending on activity/theme
  • Online (Microsoft Teams)
  • Chaired by the Centre’s AVITH Lead
