During the Centre’s Building the Evidence Project in 2019, we heard from Victorian social services workers that young people using violence in the home (or their family members) might also:

  • be victims/survivors of family violence themselves
  • have a history of trauma
  • have a disability diagnosis (Autism is particularly common)
  • have issues with alcohol and/or other drugs
  • experience issues with mental health.

Specialist AVITH Programs

Young people need support to manage their behaviours. Approaches that are used with adults using family violence (such as removing and holding perpetrators to account) will not be effective in the same way.
